The rise of the "Cubana" fly.........

It's not often that a "made up" saltwater fly works well on a trout stillwater, but I must admit the "Cubana" seems to be producing day in day out for a local angler. The fly is a cross between a lure and a floating fry, tied with calf tail and craft select. The fly is a size 8 and is fished on the surface????? I have fished the fly myself and been stunned by it's ability to out fish dries and the more natural lure patterns. You are probably thinking just a good stocky basher fished in the right place at the right time....I think not, yes the fly catches recent fish that have been stocked but it has a tendency to find the wiser fish that have made Pennines water there home, this flies ability is a true mystery to me. Back to the fish of the week, this goes to Mr Luke Comiskey from St Helens with a good double caught on a yellow fritz fished on a floating line. Angler of the week goes to Mr Geoff Marsh with 16 fish mainly caught on black buzzers fished near the life buoy on the top lake. Please note the Friday late night fishing ends on 28th September, and the late pass evenings end on the 30th September, many thanks for the lads who have supported the evening fishing.
